Revolutionizing Cleanroom Safety: igus' Abrasion-Resistant Energy Chain
A game-changer for chip and battery production!
igus introduces the e-skin soft ESD, an innovative energy chain designed to enhance safety in cleanrooms. This cutting-edge solution addresses the growing demand for electric vehicles and AI, ensuring the production of lithium-ion batteries and microchips meets the highest standards.
But here's where it gets controversial... Traditional shielding methods consume valuable cleanroom space. And this is the part most people miss: igus' e-skin soft ESD offers a brilliant alternative.
The e-skin soft ESD is a compact, space-saving energy chain with a unique self-supporting function. It eliminates the need for bulky shielding, providing design engineers with unprecedented flexibility. With additives in the material, this e-chain is both abrasion-resistant and dissipative, ensuring electrostatic discharges are safely managed.
Kira Weller, igus' Product Manager and Cleanroom Expert, highlights the importance of ESD protection for sensitive products. "Many engineers resort to special shielding, but this can be inefficient and space-consuming." The e-skin soft ESD offers a compact, efficient solution, allowing engineers to work closer to the product without additional shielding.
The e-skin soft ESD's compact design is a game-changer. It requires minimal installation space and features an innovative upper and lower shell construction, creating a secure, closed pipe housing for cables and media guides. Made from igus' high-performance plastic, it offers tight bend radii of 55mm, with inner heights and widths varying to accommodate different needs.
One of its standout features is its ability to achieve unsupported lengths, thanks to its oval geometry and defined stiffness. This eliminates the need for guides, further enhancing its space-saving capabilities. With a service life of over 20 million double strokes, it's built to last.
As we strive for the highest level of cleanliness, ISO Class 1, the e-skin soft ESD excels. Its high-performance plastic is incredibly abrasion-resistant, preventing particle generation during fast movements. The upper and lower shells create a closed pipe, containing cable particles and ensuring cleanroom suitability.
The e-skin soft ESD has already passed rigorous tests in igus' cleanroom laboratory, in collaboration with the Fraunhofer IPA. Official certification is imminent.
So, what do you think? Is this a revolutionary solution for cleanroom safety? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
