Amidst the T20 World Cup, Pakistan's Salman Ali Agha Defends Usman Tariq's Bowling Action
In a recent press conference, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha addressed the debate surrounding spinner Usman Tariq's bowling action, asserting that the player has been cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and remains unaffected by the controversy. Usman, a 28-year-old talent, has taken 11 wickets in four T20Is with an impressive average of 7.90, including a remarkable four-wicket haul. His sidearm action, which involves a brief pause before release, has sparked questions about its legality, with some alleging that he is throwing the ball.
Agha emphasized that the team values all 15 players equally, highlighting Usman's exceptional performance and describing him as a 'trump card'. He stated, 'You all have made Usman Tariq a big name. For us, all 15 players are important. He has been bowling well. You can definitely say that he is a trump card for us. He has been cleared by the ICC, so I don't understand why everyone is discussing him. Usman doesn't get affected by these things. He is fine. He doesn't care about these things.'
The captain also referred to Pakistan's historical record against India in T20 World Cups, acknowledging their poor performance but emphasizing the unchangeable nature of past results. He said, 'Definitely, we do not have a good record against the Indians, but we can't change history, and every day is a new day.'
The India-Pakistan match, set to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, holds significant importance in the tournament. Both teams have already played two matches each, with India emerging victorious against the USA and Namibia, and Pakistan defeating the Netherlands and USA. India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, currently leads Group A with four points and a net run rate of +3.050, while Pakistan follows closely behind with four points and a net run rate of +0.932.
