The wait is finally over! Collin Morikawa has broken his PGA Tour winless streak in spectacular fashion at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, proving that perseverance truly pays off.
After a nail-biting finish that saw his lead evaporate in the final holes, Morikawa clinched his first trophy in over two years with a masterful birdie on the 18th. It was a dramatic conclusion to a tournament that kept everyone on the edge of their seats!
For much of the back nine, it seemed like the American golfer had the championship firmly in hand, holding a comfortable two-stroke lead with just two holes remaining. However, the pressure of the moment, combined with the exceptional play of his competitors, created a thrilling turn of events. As Australian contender Min Woo Lee sank a crucial birdie on the 18th, and Morikawa himself stumbled with a bogey on the 17th, the two found themselves tied at an impressive 21-under par.
And this is the part most people miss... just when it seemed like a playoff was inevitable, with Austrian player Sepp Straka also joining the 21-under club, the golfing gods had one more twist in store. A 20-minute delay due to strong winds affecting the play of another golfer, Jacob Bridgeman, tested Morikawa's patience and focus. But in a display of incredible composure, he emerged from the break, found the green with his second shot, and calmly sank a short putt to secure a round of 67 and, more importantly, the victory.
"It's special for a lot of reasons," a visibly relieved Morikawa shared after the win. The 29-year-old spoke candidly about the immense effort he's poured into his game, admitting, "I've put countless hours and nights - probably too many hours - thinking about golf." He emphasized his unwavering belief in himself, adding, "I kept believing in myself. Honestly, at the beginning of this week it didn't really feel like this was going to be possible."
